What is “density” and how does it affect the comfort of memory foam?
Density is the weight of the memory foam measured in cubic feet. In the past density was important in
assessing the quality of memory foam. Today, density is not the only factor that determines comfort.
Technological breakthroughs have allowed Sleep Innovations to produce “open cell” products. These
are the best performing products on the market as the open cell structure, not the density, determines
quality and comfort.
Is memory foam sensitive to temperature?
Memory foam is temperature sensitive, so environmental temperatures may affect how it feels. For
mattresses and mattress toppers, in particular, very warm and humid weather may make them feel
softer, while very cold weather may make them somewhat firmer. If you feel a memory foam mattress
or mattress topper is too firm, try removing the conventional mattress pad to allow the memory foam
material to be more responsive to your body temperature. If you feel the memory foam mattress or
mattress topper is too soft, try adding a conventional mattress pad to make the mattress seem firmer
without losing the pressure point relief. You may also try keeping the room slightly cooler.
